A2 motorway will connect – after it has been completed and put into operation – Serbian capital Beograd with Montenegro, the section Surčin-Obrenovac being its northernmost part. This important arterial road will also become a part of the so-called Corridor XI, an international transport route running from Bari seaport in the south of Italy to Bucharest, the capital of Romania.
The Surčin-Obrenovac section is being constructed as a part of approx. 120-km-long motorway, stretching fromBeograd to Čačak inCentral Serbia. The section concerned has 17,6 km in length – with a 1600-m-long bridge crossing the Sava river being an important part of it. A Chinese company CCCC (China Communications Construction Company) has been chosen as the General Contractor, total construction costs are expected to exceed 200 mil. EUR. Construction works commenced in Q1/2017, the completion is scheduled for thebeginning of 2020.
Within the Surčin-Obrenovac motorway part, it was necessary to address the problem of an inappropriate quality of soil found in the subgrade of certain parts of the section's length. Thus, the project designer decided to supplement the structure in these parts with a 500 g/m2 geotextile which had to comply with a multitude of hydraulic and mechanical demands. The requirements for the geotextile properties were determined with respect tothematerials used for the individual construction layers. The main task of the geotextile designed to be used in the structure is the separation of soil in the subgrade fromthe first filling layer onthe topof it; besides that, it is supposed to avoid the penetration of fine soil particles through the filter into the construction layer beneath/above, and also partially absorb the impacts of load affecting the subgrade from above. The geotextile must also provide sufficient water permeability – in order to make sure that water pressure levels in the pores of the so-called protected soil do not rise significantly.
High demands of the Surčin-Obrenovac tendering procedure were fulfilled by nonwoven geotextile geoNETEX A PP 500 UVLS, manufactured in the Czech Republic by JUTA a.s.
